Mini Bio

I love the UK’s wild places and cycling through them. When I’m not on my bike I also enjoy sea kayaking and hill walking. After over a decade of leading overseas expeditions to Asia, Africa and Latin America combined with teaching Geography, I’ve become about as settled down as a tour guide can ever be, living in the UK, although still like to venture overseas. I guided a sensory impairment charity trek to Kilimanjaro in June 2014.

Working for the Wilderness group has given me the opportunity to share the outstanding natural beauty of a world-class destination. The landscape and culture is unsurpassed. If I had to choose a favourite trip it would be quite difficult as it’s always a privilege to experience any journey in our remote surroundings with amicable, like-minded people.

Favourite Place to Play

Biking in the far north. Empty roads and wild trails.

Not a lot of People Know This

I was the first person from Scotland to complete the ‘Tour Divide’, a 2,745-mile long mountain bike race from Canada to Mexico.

In 2011 I biked the ‘Tour Divide’, a 2,750 mile race from Banff, Canada to the Mexican border along the USA Continental Divide. This was my biggest physical adventure. My most rewarding adventure was helping to guide a friend who was both deaf and visually impaired up to the summit of Kilimanjaro in 2014.

I have a degree in Environmental Geography. My knowledge of flora and fauna is also improving every year. Every day I’m out with Wilderness is a school day.

Our guide Will was amazing! Couldn’t have wished for anyone else. He really cared about everyone in the group, provided insane insights to Scotland and the places we’ve been to. The way thought ahead and guided us was just brilliant!

Will was a shining light; knowledgeable, enthusiastic, interested in the group and how we experienced the locatiobs and walks respectful, perhaps a little shy when he had to assist some of us up a rocky cliff; sometimes a shove is appropriate!
We were lucky to have him.

The guides, Simon and Will, were really top notch, adjusting to some difficulties with ferry schedules, providing great coffees and lunch breaks, and generally keeping us moving and on top of logistics....
