    Mini Bio

I grew up in Germany, and for the last 20 years, l have lived in Switzerland, Australia, Germany, and the UK for the last 13 years. I started my professional career as a social support worker, working in a residential setting with adults with learning disabilities, but then started the process of becoming an Outdoor Facilitator in 2001.

I have worked full-time as an Outdoor Instructor and Expedition Leader since 2006 – first for two years in Australia, then briefly back in Germany/Austria, and, since 2011, here in the UK, where I started in North Wales for the first three years.

    Favourite Place to Play

I love to be in the mountains. In the hills of the UK, I love to walk and scramble. In the Alps or other higher altitude ranges around the world, I love trekking through them. Winter is possibly my favourite time of the year to go walking, mountaineering or snowshoeing – perfect!

My favourite place in the Lake District is the Ennerdale Valley, as it feels wild compared to other valleys. One of my favourite mountaineering routes in the Lakes is Steeple Buttress on Steeple.

Not a lot of People Know This

One year, for a ‘winter job’, I taught introductory English at a language school for adults whilst living back in Germany in 2009.

    Experience Read More

Over the last 18 years, I have worked with a large variety of groups, from young people to adults. I have worked in various outdoor settings, from facilitating individual days for groups or individuals (mainly on the hill, but sometimes ghyll scrambling or rock climbing) to multiday expeditions and walking holidays.

Besides my work here in the UK, I have led expeditions in various countries of South America, India, Nepal, Tanzania (including Kilimanjaro), and Morocco (including Toubkal). I have led walking holidays in the Alps and Poland and taken snowshoe trips to Norway and Sweden. I like to get to know the groups and individuals I am working with, hear their ‘stories’, and support them in having a great and safe time away with good experiences – whatever their reason/objective to come along may be.

    Biggest Adventure Read More

Not sure if it is the biggest adventure, however probably the most ‘impactful’ adventure I had in my life was a month long trip to Southern Africa, which included a 21 day trip on an overland truck going from Cape Town to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, via Namibia and Botswana in 2000. This trip triggered a total change in my life from being in a rather settled, well-paid job as a social support worker in Switzerland to becoming an Outdoor Instructor and Expedition Leader.

    Specialist Subject Read More

I wouldn’t say that I have a specific specialist subject, apart from maybe having spent a lot of time in the mountains over the years. I am interested in many subjects and constantly seek to learn and develop more.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Kristina

Very caring, made us feel comfortable, so knowledgeable, thoughtful, well informed, organized, we felt safe and she had us laughing lots.

Kristina did a great job. Our group had a wide range of abilities. Unfortunately, this meant that we could not do all the planned hikes. She came up with different options that allowed for everyone to be included and we all saw beautiful things

Our guide was excellent. She took the time to get to know each traveler, their interests, strengths and weaknesses. She kept us moving and got us to the finish line!
I would have liked a little more on what to expect each day (mileage, vertical, technicality). I had the impression, she didn't want to scare us. :-) I'm one that likes to know what to expect.

As noted above, Christine was exceptional. She of course had technical mastery, but more she had great sensitivity to hikers and was very emphathetic. What a difference a top tour guide makes!

Kristina was certainly a very able guide and she helped me with some finer points of hiking techniques, especially in the use of poles.
