At a time when honey-coloured villages are adorned with twinkling lights, and woolly sheep graze by rolling drystone walls, the landscape of the Cotswolds offers a magical winter destination. With no need to worry about directions, head out for scenic walks that meander through the historic countryside. Visit ancient sites and old churches, stop by cosy, candle-lit pubs, and learn more about the area’s wildlife, heritage, and rich literary history. After relaxed, lovely days spent outside, return to the comfort of a traditional English inn, chosen for its warm welcome, crackling fires, soft linens, and delicious food.

      This morning, meet your guide at 10.00am at Oxford Railway Station and transfer west to the pretty village of Bibury. After a coffee in a local cafe and a chat about the adventure ahead, enjoy a lovely walk that winds its way along the Coln Valley. Along the way, stop by Arlington Row, a charming row of cottages built in 1380 as a monastic wool store. After your walk, travel a short distance to the historic market town of Burford and settle into a beautiful traditional inn, which will be your base for the duration of your trip.

      Day 2 – Walking in the Windrush Valley Read Less

      Walking in the Windrush Valley

      After a relaxed breakfast, head out for a circular walk through the Windrush Valley. From the door of your hotel, stroll through Burford’s quaint streets, admiring the gorgeous honey-hued houses with their wooden doors and cast iron knockers. Ribbon your way along the edges of frosty fields and look out for the ruins of the tiny 13th century St Oswald’s Church. Enjoy a hearty lunch in an 18th century pub, later returning to your cosy inn to warm your feet by a crackling fire.

      Belas Knap & Bourton-on-the-Water

      Today, enjoy an interesting and scenic walk that visits a good example of a Neolithic long barrow. From the pretty stone cottages and distinctive black and white timbered buildings of Winchcombe, make your way along a section of the Cotswold Way and return via Sudeley Valley. Along the way, stop to explore Belas Knap, said to be about 5,000 years old, and enjoy the views of Sudeley Castle. After you walk, visit Bourton-on-the-Water, which is often ranked as one of the prettiest villages in the UK. Here, enjoy a delicious, quintessentially English cream tea before returning to your inn for the night.

      Exploring the Eastleachs

      Head out today for a beautiful walk and a leisurely lunch at a cosy country pub. From the picturesque village of Southrop, meander through the glittering landscape, admiring the drystone walls and frost-tipped meadows. Spend time exploring the two tiny villages of Eastleach Martin and Eastleach Turville, which sit side by side astride the River Leach. Visit both villages’ respective churches, crossing the connecting clapper bridge that leads from one to another. Returning to Southrop later this afternoon, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a well-earned dinner.

      Day 5 – Blenheim Palace and Depart Read Less

      Blenheim Palace and Depart

      This morning, visit the incredible Blenheim Palace, built between 1705 and 1722. Notable as the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and unique in its combined use as a family home, mausoleum, and national monument. After exploring the impressive palace, enjoy lunch at the cafe and a walk around the palace gardens, soaking up the beautiful views. Later this afternoon, your guide will drive you back to Oxford Railway Station, where your trip will conclude.

      On this walking holiday, we stay in a quintessential and historic English inn nestled on a quaint side street in Burford, a picturesque town in the Windrush Valley.

      Accommodation is a choice of double or twin rooms with ensuite facilities.

      Single Rooms

      There is no supplement charged to solo travellers, however, you will be required to share a room with another person of the same sex. If you request a double room for single occupancy, a supplement of £170 is charged.

      Due to the nature of the accommodations we use, single supplements are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

      All meals are included in this trip, from lunch on day 1 to lunch on the final day. Dinners are two courses as standard.
