      Created by: Matt Loveland

On a fully-guided walking trip, discover the beautiful, wild landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park (pronounced ‘er-ruh-re’). Across seven days of hiking, traverse quiet, meandering trails that ribbon along lake shores, turquoise-tinged rivers, and up the flanks of rocky, wind-kissed mountains.

Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide, explore tranquil hidden gems and enjoy the opportunity to summit Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) – the country’s highest peak. Along the way, learn about the region’s rich tapestry of mythology and folklore while also looking out for wildlife, such as wild mountain goats and sharp-eyed peregrine falcons.

Where the strength of the Welsh language flows naturally through communities, learn about Eryri’s (Snowdonia’s) history and the local people who shape it. On this fantastic hiking trip, join us on an adventure designed to showcase the very best of this stunning part of Wales.

      Day 1

      Welcome to Wales

Meet your Wilderness guide at Chester Railway Station this morning and transfer west to the pretty town of Dolgellau, nestled in the bounds of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. After a lovely lunch, head out for a mellow circular walk as it ribbons its way through the historical Nannau Estate. Dating back to the 12th century, it is full of fascinating Welsh history. Continue along the shores of Llyn Cynwch (‘llyn’ is Welsh, meaning lake or pool). Afterwards, a short drive will take you to your cosy hotel, where you can enjoy some time to relax before dinner.

      Walking with Giants

After breakfast, head out to enjoy a wonderful day hiking up Cadair Idris – one of the highest mountains in southern Eryri (Snowdonia) at 893 m/2,930 ft. Legend has it that this fractured mountain peak is named after a giant called Idris and that if you spend a night on its exposed flanks, you’ll either end up a poet or mad. Luckily, we don’t plan on camping, so there’s no need to take that risk. As you walk, enjoy amazing views over Mawddach estuary and across the dramatic glacial waters of Llyn Cau. After a thoroughly enjoyable day, transfer back to your hotel and sit down for a delicious dinner.

Day 3 – Aberglaslyn Gorge Read Less

      Day 3

      Aberglaslyn Gorge

Today, enjoy a lower-level, wonderfully engaging circular hike. After breakfast, hop in the spacious van with your guide and drive to the picturesque stone-built village of Beddgelert. Begin your walk by following the Glaslyn River upstream (distinctive in its turquoise tinge, courtesy of the copper sulphate in the hills) to the spectacular Aberglaslyn Gorge. Folklore abounds on today’s route. Keep an eye out for the elegant bronze sculpture of Gelert – a dog from a Welsh legend that breaks your heart to hear it. The path soon approaches the placid waters of Llyn Dinas, where it is said a red dragon sleeps in the coolness of its inky depths. This evening, settle into the second hotel of the trip.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
      Walk Details: 8 km / 5 miles | 280 m / 919 ft | Approx: 4 hrs

      Day 4

Hiking in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park

After breakfast, head out to enjoy one of Eryri’s (Snowdonia’s) classic hill walks – Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. After a short drive, begin the hike by winding your way up to Llyn Idwal Lake, which sits glassy and still below the rugged mountains. As you traverse the main ridgeline, the terrain opens up into an otherwordly landscape of grey rock and low-growing vegetation, all framed beneath a never-ending sky. Make sure to snap a photo on the well-known Cantilever Stone before descending to the shores of Llyn Bochlwyd. Here, according to local myth, an old grey stag escaped the cruel hands of a hunter by jumping into the dark water from a great height and swimming to safety.

Weave your way across quiet, wild heath, passing the steady parallel pulse of Afon Cwm Llan Waterfalls and enjoying the peacefulness of the smooth waters of Llyn Dinas. After lunch, a short drive will take you to the small village of Llanberis where you can dive into the heart of Welsh industrial history on a fascinating tour of the National Slate Museum. Enjoy engaging talks and live demonstrations as you get a glimpse into the importance of slate mining in the history and politics of Wales. Later this evening, relax back at your lovely hotel.

      in your own words

This trip was amazing, we got to see so much of the 5 countries in so little time. The sites and locations that were mapped out were perfect. A rest day in Dublin is the perfect city to explore and find good food. The guides were knowledgeable and thoughtful, and made the trip very easy, all we had to do was bike and show up to dinner! Absolutely awesome experience.
