      Glenridding and Afternoon Walk

Meet your Wilderness guide at Penrith Train Station this morning and transfer to the pretty village of Glenridding, tucked at the foot of Kirkstone Pass at the southern end of Ullswater. After a relaxed lunch, head out for a mellow circular walk that winds through the trees and ascends gradually to Lanty’s Tarn (a small mountain lake), providing beautiful views. On your return, transfer a short distance to your cosy hotel, taking some time to settle in before dinner and a good night’s sleep.

      Day 2

A Boat Trip on Derwent Water

After breakfast, join your guide and walk to Lodore Jetty (stopping if there’s time at the tumbling waterfalls) before boarding a boat and cruising out onto the shimmering surface of Derwent Water. Disembark on the far shore and visit the pretty market town of Keswick. After a wander around the town, take the boat a little further around the lake for a stunning hike along the water’s edge. The views here are lovely – the surrounding fells a medley of shattered rocky peaks and bristling wooded crags. Enjoy the golden autumn colours and the smell of berry-heavy hedgerows before returning to your hotel to relax.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
      Walk Details: 9 km / 6 miles | 100 m / 328 ft | Approx: 4 hrs

      Day 3

Whinlatter Forest and the Lakes Distillery

Head out this morning to explore a 100-year-old working forest and England’s only mountain woodland. Follow a trail that ribbons through the trees and discover more about the history of the Lakes as you take in views of the fiery hills. After lunch, visit the Lakes Distillery for a guided tour and tasting. Producing whisky, gin, and vodka, learn about how the distillery’s location plays an intrinsic role in creating its excellent tipples.

      Day 4

      Exploring Buttermere Valley

Today, explore the picturesque Buttermere Valley. From the shore of the lake that lends the valley its name, rugged fells sweep skywards, their heaths a mix of bilberry, crowberry and dwarf juniper. A walk along the valley floor provides beautiful views of the mountains above, where streams gurgle through bronzed bracken and towering crags gleam with rain-slick rock. Chat with your guide about the valley’s pastoral heritage, from ancient packhorse routes to the stories of shepherds who have shaped the landscape. This evening, enjoy a delicious final dinner, toasting a wonderful week spent exploring the Lakes.

      Lowther Castle and Depart

Visit Castlerigg Standing Stones this morning – Britain’s most dramatically situated stone circle. Found on a plateau encircled by craggy fells, this ancient monument is thought to be around 5,000 years old, making it older than Stonehenge. After admiring the view, travel to the charming village of Askham for a hike that explores the beautiful ruins of Lowther Castle. After lunch, your guide will transfer you to Penrith Station, where your trip will conclude.

The little touches and details are important to us and where issues are raised we make positive changes to our trips to improve your experience.

That’s why we read each of our client’s reviews and although we don’t respond to all of them, if it’s glowing feedback then we get the satisfaction of helping to make your holidays truly memorable.
