    Mini Bio

I taught for 32 years at a school in Dorset. Throughout that time, I was involved in, and responsible for, the Outdoor Education Department. At various times, this included leading the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Ten Tors Training, kayaking, surfing and Adventurous Training (as part of the CCF). Over the years, I organised several Adventurous/Mountain charity challenges. I have always enjoyed sharing my love of the outdoors with others.

    Favourite Place to Play

Gosh! I am happy surf kayaking on Cornwall’s north coast, wild camping and hiking on Dartmoor, and rock climbing in the Peak District. I also enjoy climbing mountains in Scotland when I get the chance.

Not a lot of People Know This

It is no secret that I have always enjoyed being in the great outdoors, an enjoyment that started at school. People might not know that one of my most memorable early trips, to the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) in Wales, did not quite go according to plan. In particularly windy conditions, our leader’s glasses blew off and our map flew away – we found the glasses, but we never did find that map!

I joined the Mountaineering Club at school. I have enjoyed walking, climbing, and paddling adventures in the Outdoors throughout the UK and Europe ever since.

Leading a group of students to complete a challenge for charity involving summiting the nine highest peaks in the UK in one continuous journey.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Simon

I have been on many guided tours with some great guides but Simon is by far the best. His knowledge of the hikes and the places we visited were exceptional. He adapted very well if there was a need to change the itinerary. It was nice to spend a week with him in his beloved Cornwall.

Simon was our tour guide, he was awesome! He was considerate, attentive and extremely knowledgeable about Cornwall and the places of interest visited, sharing interesting insights throughout the tour. He made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. We couldn't have asked for a more proficient guide and highly recommend him.

Every step of the way Simon led with exceptional patience, consideration and diligence. We experienced unusually high temps during the trip but always felt safe and cared for. Simon’s passion for sharing the history and culture of his beloved Cornwall shone through at every stage. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed being in his company each day.

The benefits of a guide with strong local knowledge are innumerable. Simon has a passion for the area, his home, as well as a desire to show Cornwall at its best. As the heatwave took hold Simon was able to put together an excellent programme of events within the capabilities of the group in light of the extreme weather conditions. Simon is knowledgeable, approachable, humble and with a dry and quiet sense of humour is unchallenged in guiding a group of mixed ability walkers in Cornwall. We could not have wished for a better leader.

    Our Guide Simon was marvellous.
His informative manner and local knowledge was great. When the weather was unsuitable for the planned walking route, he organised alternatives which were very enjoyable. We got to see more points of interest and still walked some smaller distances.
    Nothing was too much trouble.

Simon was great company, managed the group really well and was flexible when very hot weather made original itinerary difficult.

Simon was very knowledgeable on the history and route and pleasant to deal with. He was diligent in plans for each day and flexible when people were sick. He worked hard to engage the quieter members of the trip.

Then you can make your choice of departures dates and we'll get back to you to finalise the details.

We work together with our team of guides to decide which departures they lead each year. As part of that, guides provide available dates that they are free to be booked.
