    Mini Bio

Part-time wilderness guide, part-time conservation consultant, part-time sailor and diver. Full-time nature lover!

Despite living only ten miles from the southernmost point of mainland Great Britain, I don’t need an excuse to get up north to the mountains. My favourite spots are pretty much all of England’s Lake District.

When not guiding, I have a small environmental consultancy and work with NGOs such as WWF to tackle the challenge of deforestation in South America and Asia.

    Favourite Place to Play

My five favourite places in the world are (probably):

    • The UK (Highlands and Lake District)
    • Patagonia
    • Slovenia
    • Saltwater
    • My allotment

Not a lot of People Know This

I once shared a urinal with Michael Palin, a dance-floor with Jerry Springer, and talked the President of Ghana to sleep.

Probably five months in South America last year (2018) including three months on the epic Carretera Austral – one of the last great undeveloped road routes of the world. An incredible trip through mountains, glaciers, volcanos, landslides, forests, lakes and even deserts.

    Deforestation. And more positively, reforestation!

I wrote part of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity Report (the ‘TEEB’ report) which calculated that loss of biodiversity is costing the world $4.5 trillion per year, every year.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Chris

Chris was an excellent guide. He worked extremely hard to make every day go as smoothly as possible even with some challenging weather conditions to deal with. He was friendly, knowledgeable and approachable and a pleasure to have as our “leader”.

Chris was a hard working, well organized, and knowledgeable guide who made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our trip and were safe and comfortable. I would highly recommend Chris as a guide for any trip and would be happy to have him lead us again.

Chris was an outstanding leader. He was familiar with the geography, history, flora/fauna, etc. of the trails and taught us a lot about Cornwall. He adapted quickly and seamlessly to changing conditions! We all appreciated his skillful management of the trip.

Our guide was truly outstanding. He was friendly and had a great sense of humor. He made a point to get to know everyone in the group. He was very knowledgeable about Cornwall history, wildlife, geography, and points of interest. He was extremely patient with varying ability levels and experience as we hiked. He added so much to the trip.

    Make Trip Private

Sometimes it's nice to get family and friends together and travel privately for some quality time. This means you benefit from all the features of the group departure, including hand-picked accommodation and expert local guides and we'll take care of it all. Then you can make your choice of departures dates and we'll get back to you to finalise the details.

We work together with our team of guides to decide which departures they lead each year. As part of that, guides provide available dates that they are free to be booked. This means that any of the dates you see in the first field of the form below, could be perfect for your private departure or customised tour.
