      Meet your guide at Oxenholme Railway Station this morning and transfer a short distance to Windermere, England’s largest lake. Visit the Jetty Museum and learn about Windermere’s 200-year-old boating history, exploring the fascinating collection of boats, gadgets and curiosities. Enjoy a leisurely lunch before driving over Kirkstone Pass and into Patterdale Valley. Visit Crookabeck Farm Wool Shop and pause at Glencoyne Bay, where Wordsworth was inspired to write his famous verse: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. Afterwards, transfer to your lovely deluxe hotel in Borrowdale Valley.

Meet the farmer for an engaging talk covering the rhythms of the farming year, native sheep breeds and how climate change and conservation shape the future of hill farming. After a short drive, arrive at the Lingholm Estate for a relaxed lunch and to explore the walled garden that inspired Beatrix Potter. Later, take a scenic cruise on the placid waters of Derwentwater, from Hawes End to Keswick, soaking in the views before coming ashore to explore the town’s shops and galleries.

      This morning, visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, undoubtedly one of the most dramatically situated stone circles in Britain. Afterwards, continue to Grasmere, a pretty village tucked at the foot of some spectacular fells. Visit Dove Cottage, where William Wordsworth lived with his sister Dorothy from 1799 to 1808. Step back in time as you explore the tranquil rooms still full of the late poet’s possessions. Afterwards, spend some time strolling along Grasmere’s narrow streets and perhaps picking up some famous Grasmere Gingerbread. After a short but very scenic stroll, transfer south to arrive at your second accommodation of the trip.

Afterwards, take a peaceful walk along the shores of Esthwaite Water—one of Potter’s favourite places and a tranquil spot often overlooked by visitors. Later in the day, visit a traditional Lakeland farm in a scenic valley, home to a prized flock of Herdwick sheep. Take the time to pause and enjoy the shifting light and birdsong, also keeping an eye out for woodpeckers, roe deer and squirrels. Afterwards, hop in with your guide and transfer to Oxenholme Railway Station, where your trip will conclude.

      This Culture & Heritage holiday is based in two deluxe accommodations.

      For the first three nights, we stay in a traditional English Lake District hotel, nestled in the picturesque valley of Borrowdale, offering stunning views and traditional hospitality.

      For the final three nights, we stay in an elegant country house, located on the edge of the charming market town of Ambleside. It provides a luxurious escape with an emphasis on fine dining.

      Single Rooms

      There is no supplement charged to solo travellers, however, you will be required to share a room with another person of the same sex. If you request a double room for single occupancy, a supplement of £740 is charged.

      Due to the nature of the accommodations we use, single supplements are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

      This trip includes all meals, from lunch on day 1 to breakfast on day 7. Dinners are two courses as standard.

      Great food is paramount on all Wilderness England trips, and we will enjoy excellent regional cooking throughout this all-inclusive trip. Of course, dietary requirements can be catered for; just let us know at the time of booking.

      Your Wilderness England Guide will meet you at Oxenholme Railway Station at 10:30am on Day 1 of your trip.

      The trip will finish at Oxenholme Railway Station at 1:00pm on the final day.

      Oxenholme is a small rural station, but it’s an important junction on the West Coast Main Line and trains frequently run to London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

      We may be able to pick you up and drop you off in the market town of Kendal, which is approximately 10 minutes from Oxenholme. Please let our sales team know if you’d like to do this, and they will confirm the timings and location.
