    Mini Bio

Settled now in Cumbria, England. The Lake District National Park is a place I love for work and play. Originally from Devon and brought up in Wiltshire I also spent time living in the Scottish Highlands, working for Outward Bound Loch Eil. So, Outdoor Education and personal development work is within my very core.

Over my career I have worked with both adults and young people helping folks learn and grow in some amazing places; from Nepal and Peru to Norway and Poland.  In recent years I have guided a lot in Northern England and love enabling guests to get the very most out of their holiday.

To balance my guiding I am also in the process of writing a novel and renovating my home – and on the odd spare moment, I might just be found swimming in a lake or paddling my kayak.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Jo

Jo and Nat were simply excellent. They adjusted to some nasty weather, made sure everyone was having a good time, covered all the logistical details and were supurb guides and interpreters on the trail. They went above and beyond for the needs of their guests. And they were both just as personable as can be. We really enjoyed our time with them. A+

I already mentioned that we loved the mountain top poetry readings, the cafe service in the back of the van, our guides' knowledge of the route, both historical as well from the nature side. We also enjoyed seeing their ability to work so well together as a team, tag teaming everyday as needed. It was really fun to be walking along at the end of the day and the van driver walking back along the trail to meet the group for the last few kms.

Jo and Nat are so experienced and familiar with the route! We appreciated the stop for dry bags at the beginning and they served us very well. The information, the poetry, the care for everyone and lots of fun stories going all around made everything so easy and enjoyable! Can’t say enough!

Jo and Nat were experts in mountain guiding and planning coast to coast groups and our group benefited every step of the way. The care given to details needed to make our hikes safe, interesting and informative were first rate and sustained throughout the whole trip. And on top of that, the care and concern they had for our group was so authentic and meaningful that it positively impacted the whole group. Kudos to Jo and Nat for their amazing spirits and expertise.

Jo and Nat were exceptional. From poetry reading to helping us cross streams, they were patient, kind and attentive. They know the routes and terrain extremely well and I felt confident led by them. They also work so well together, like right hand and left hand guiding us and ensuring we all had a good time.

Do you have a higher level than "Excellent"?! Jo was truly a leader and a great listener! She was generous with her time both to me and my daughter, and our other hiker as well. We enjoyed many conversations, yet she also knew to give my daughter and I lots of time just to talk between ourselves, which I appreciated. She also managed to keep us on schedule without cracking the whip too hard. I can often be overwhelmed by the beauty and history I'm experiencing to the point of self-indulgence, but Jo guided us along while still allowing me to revel, gawk and experience it all. She loves animals, as do we, so that was a great fit. And she also was genuinely personally interested in all the history and culture. She knew a great deal about the Wall and the Romans, but what she didn't know she herself was curious to learn. We had many great conversations about language and dialects and US vs British phrases, etc. All in all she made for a great companion, rain or shine. And I'm grateful for all the snacks and treats. So, THANK YOU, Jo. You made it all so special.

The guides were very knowledgeable regarding the route and facilities. They had a lovely way of sharing information and helped create a fun/easy-going atmosphere for all the walkers. They always checked-in to see if everything was going well, and would offer options as appropriate.
