      Trip Overview

      Created by: Anna Brownlow

This seven day, fully guided walking holiday reveals the beautiful landscapes of the Peak District, the UK’s first national park. Considered by many to be the birthplace of free access to the countryside, the Peak District has long inspired a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Based in a welcoming hotel full of traditional charm, each day takes you on a new adventure through limestone dales, gritstone edges and vast open hillsides. Accompanied by an experienced guide, enjoy a thoughtfully curated series of walks, each offering a different perspective on the region’s natural beauty, history and wildlife.

Wind your way through peaceful river valleys and across dramatic ridgelines, accompanied by sweeping panoramic views. Along the way, benefit from local insights and pause to savour regional delights, including the iconic Bakewell pudding. Combining gentle challenge with plenty of reward, this is a rich and varied journey through one of England’s most cherished landscapes.

      Arrive and Afternoon Walk

Meet your guide and fellow walkers at Hathersage Railway Station and head to a nearby café for a relaxed lunch and a chat about the adventure ahead. Afterwards, stretch your legs on a peaceful circular walk through Coombs Dale, a hidden limestone valley. Follow a gentle path beneath ash trees and beside a meandering stream, emerging into a sunlit dale recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and home to wildflowers and rare butterflies. After the hike, transfer to your welcoming hotel with time to settle in before dinner.

      Day 2

Bleaklow Heights and the Caves of Castleton

After breakfast, head out for a circular walk to the summit of Bleaklow, the second-highest hill in the Peak District. Begin with a descent down to the banks of a tumbling brook, following its banks before crossing the open moor. Seemingly boundless, this evocative landscape brings to mind the wind-scoured heaths of Charlotte Brontë’s famous novel, Jane Eyre. Golden grasses stretch in every direction, broken by large, smooth rocks, perfect to perch on for a drink and a snack. After your walk, visit the historic village of Castleton. After some free time there, take a guided tour of Peak Cavern, a spectacular natural cave with a rather unusual second name.

Day 3 – The Dragon’s Back Read Less

      Day 3

      The Dragon’s Back

Lace your boots this morning and set out on a scenic and engaging hike along one of the Peak District’s most distinctive geological features – the dramatic limestone spine of Chrome Hill. Also known as the Dragon’s Back, its undulating ridge mimics the shape of a dragon’s spine, with steep ascents offering spectacular views. The route winds through ancient, folded earth, grazed by hardy sheep and crisscrossed by dry stone walls, giving a real sense of the region’s timeless landscape. As you descend, pass through hay meadows and quiet fields before returning to your hotel for a well-earned dinner.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
      Walk Details: 9 km / 6 miles | 450 m / 1,476 ft | Approx: 6.5 hrs

Day 4 – Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve Read Less

      Day 4

      Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve

Today, set out for an invigorating moorland walk through Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve. Your guide will share insights on how peatland restoration has played a key role in rejuvenating the landscape, enhancing habitats for insects and the ground-nesting birds that depend on them, including species like the curlew and golden plover. As you skirt the edge of the Kinder Plateau, pass the distinctive rock outcrop known as Noe Stool. This striking landscape was also the site of the 1932 mass trespass, a pivotal protest that helped contribute to the creation of national parks in the UK. As the path begins to descend, take in sweeping views across the Vale of Edale and admire the intricate patchwork of dry-stone walls and field boundaries.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
      Walk Details: 13 km / 8 miles | 560 m / 1,837 ft | Approx: 6 hrs

Day 5 – Monsal Trail and Bakewell Pudding Read Less

      Day 5

      Monsal Trail and Bakewell Pudding

Hop in with your guide and transfer to the start of the Monsal Trail, a lovely stretch of former Victorian railway line that threads through the limestone dales. As you make your way through the quiet ash woodlands, look out for wildflowers such as ox-eye daisies, common rock roses and bloody cranesbill. By the river, watch for dippers – small, stout birds with a low, whirring flight. With gentle gradients and plenty of history along the way, including old tunnels and impressive viaducts, this is a relaxed day out in the beautiful countryside. Your route will end in Bakewell, a riverside town famed for its unique Bakewell pudding.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
      Walk Details: 14 km / 9 miles | 350 m / 1,148 ft | Approx: 6 hrs

Day 6 – Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud Read Less

      Day 6

      Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud

Rise and shine for a day exploring a renowned National Trust beauty spot, Dovedale. One of the best-loved of the Derbyshire Dales, this twisting valley is carved by the River Doe and sliced by limestone ravines. Begin your adventure by crossing the high ground to the west of Dovedale before following the river south. The final section of the route ascends steeply (but shortly) to the top of Thorpe Cloud, a striking hill which offers excellent views of the surrounding countryside. After finishing your hike, enjoy a cream tea, perhaps sitting in the warm sunshine, before returning to your hotel for dinner.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
      Walk Details: 12 km / 7 miles | 480 m / 1,575 ft | Approx: 5 hrs

Day 7 – Stanage Edge and Depart Read Less

      Day 7

      Stanage Edge and Depart

After checking out of the hotel this morning, set out on a classic walk along Stanage Edge, a sweeping gritstone escarpment that offers expansive views over patchworked fields and wild moorland. It’s a dramatic landscape immortalised in film, where a windswept Elizabeth Bennet stood atop the edge in Pride and Prejudice (2005). Follow the ridge to High Neb, the highest point, marked by a white trig pillar. Afterwards, return to the nearby village of Hathersage to visit the reputed grave of Little John, one of Robin Hood’s legendary Merry Men. A simple headstone in the churchyard marks the site and links this quiet village to centuries of folklore. After a relaxed lunch, your guide will drop you back at Hathersage Train Station, where the trip will conclude.

      Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch
      Walk Details: 10 km / 6 miles | 300 m / 984 ft | Approx: 4 hrs
