Trip Grading Explained – How Do I Pick The Right Trip Grade For Me? Read More

Our trip grading system will help you pick the perfect adventure, ensuring you and your companions have the best possible time discovering the UK. Check out our Trip Grading Explained video below, and don’t hesitate to call one of our friendly Adventure Consultants if you have any questions or concerns about your suitability for a trip.

    Green Graded: Difficulty 1-3

Green graded trips are suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness who enjoy cycling and are looking for an active but relaxed trip. They are also suitable for active people who are new to cycle touring and looking for a new way to explore the countryside.

Distances each day will be between 40 – 75 km/25 – 45 miles, cycling at an average speed of around 10mph. We will ride on mostly straightforward rolling terrain with one or two more notable climbs during the trip, where some riders may opt to ride in the support vehicle. We will be in the saddle for 4-6 hours each day, plus the odd longer day. There is also time each day for breaks and lunches, plus visits to sites of interest.

    Blue Graded: Difficulty 4-6

Blue graded trips are suitable for people with a good level of bike fitness, who regularly enjoy cycling and may have joined a multi-day cycle holiday before.

Distances each day will be between 55 – 100 km/35 – 60 miles, cycling at around 12/14mph. Each day will be rolling and hilly terrain and there will be notable climbs most days. Some of these will be more testing and some riders may opt to push or ride in the support vehicle. Some climbs are also followed by exciting descents. We will be in the saddle for 5 – 7 hours each day, plus the odd longer day. There is also time each day for breaks and lunches, plus some visits to sites of interest.

    Red Graded: Difficulty 7-9

Red graded trips are suitable only for fit and experienced riders who love cycling and enjoy the challenge of longer days in the saddle, riding for consecutive days.

Distances range from 65 – 120 km/40 – 75 miles each day, cycling at roughly 12/14mph. We will ride a variety of terrain, from rolling countryside to hilly and mountainous areas. Most days will be challenging, and the trip will include some of the more testing climbs, including high mountain passes. These harder climbs are rewarded with fast and exciting descents. We will often be in the saddle for 7 hours each day, plus the odd longer day. There is also time each day for breaks and lunches, plus visits to some sites of interest.

    Bring Your Own Bike

You are also more than welcome to bring your own bike. If you’re bringing your E-bike along for the trip, please ensure it has a removable battery. Due to limitations around charging, E-bikes with non-removable batteries cannot be accommodated.

In addition, please bring the following:

    • Multi-tool, including a chain tool
    • Mini pump and/or CO2 canisters

    Unique and Off-the-Beaten-Path Experiences

England and Wales are brimming with breathtaking landscapes, each destination with its own story to tell. Our cycling tours take you beyond the well-trodden routes, revealing hidden gems and unexpected delights.

    The Benefits of Small Groups

Cycling with a small group transforms a great trip into something truly special. Our guided tours keep numbers low to create a more personal, immersive experience—one where you’re not just part of a group but part of a shared adventure.

With fewer riders, our guides can tailor the experience to the group’s interests and abilities, making every day feel more like a private tour. From a practical perspective, smaller groups mean smoother logistics, seamless transitions and a more relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. And, more often than not, the friendships formed on these rides last long after the final pedal stroke—many of our guests return year after year, reuniting for another adventure together.

    Expert and Passionate Guides

More than just expert cyclists, our guides are the heart of every journey. Whether fixing a trailside mechanical, adjusting the route for the best weather or setting the perfect pace, they ensure every ride is smooth and stress-free. But their expertise goes far beyond the bike—each guide brings England and Wales to life with their deep knowledge of history, culture and wildlife. From ancient battles to local delicacies, from rare bird sightings to the best bakery in town, their enthusiasm and insight add richness to every mile.

Bringing the Landscape to Life Read More

The roads, trails and rolling hills of England and Wales are steeped in legend, and our guides are natural storytellers who weave those tales into your adventure. Whether recounting the exploits of giants in the shadow of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), sharing the folklore of the Lake District’s ancient ghosts, or explaining how the Yorkshire Dales was shaped by time and tide, our guides make the landscapes as fascinating as they are beautiful. With warmth, humour and endless local knowledge, they transform your journey into an immersive experience.

Seamless Support on the Road Read More

On our guided cycling tours, you’ll always have a guide riding alongside you and another in the support vehicle, ensuring that help is never far away. If you’re on a Self Guided+ tour, the support van can assist whenever needed, although there won’t be a guide on their bike alongside you. With pre-programmed bike computers, clear route notes and expert guidance each morning, you can cycle at your own pace without worry.

Plans are always flexible, and our guides are experts at adapting the route to make the most of each day. Whether swapping a headwind-heavy climb for a scenic valley route or stopping for an impromptu cream tea at a hidden gem of a café, they ensure that every day is optimised for adventure, comfort and enjoyment.

Your Guide, Your Personal Concierge Read More

From coordinating meals to arranging transport and accommodation, our guides handle all the logistics so you can focus on the joy of the ride. Their thoughtful attention to detail means everything runs seamlessly, leaving you free to savour the journey.

Total Peace of Mind Read More

They know the best quiet lanes, the most breathtaking viewpoints, the cosiest cafés, and even where to find a pair of hand-knitted wool socks as the perfect souvenir. Whether you’re after a leisurely meander through the Cotswolds or an exhilarating hill climb in the Lake District, they’re there to make your trip as rewarding, smooth and memorable as possible.

    Sustainability and Responsible Travel

Our cycling adventures prove that responsible travel doesn’t mean compromising on experience. Our trips are carefully designed to minimise environmental impact, support local businesses and celebrate the landscapes we cherish. By choosing to pedal through the countryside rather than drive, you’re already taking a step towards a lower-carbon adventure. But sustainability goes far beyond just the mode of travel. Whether exploring with Wilderness England, Wilderness Ireland or Wilderness Scotland, we take a holistic approach to ensuring that our trips positively impact people and places.

What Responsible Travel Means to Us

Travel is an incredible privilege, offering the chance to experience breathtaking places, engage with different cultures and form lasting connections. But with that privilege comes responsibility. While flying is sometimes unavoidable, we encourage travellers to make the most of their time once they arrive—staying longer, combining trips and making each journey as meaningful as possible. As a company, we have long been recognised as a leader in sustainable travel, and we’re continuously evolving to find new ways to reduce our impact while enhancing the travel experience.

    A Thoughtful Approach to Travel

Sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing an incredible experience. In fact, we believe it enhances it. By travelling responsibly, we protect the landscapes we love and create more immersive and authentic adventures. Whether cycling along quiet backroads or tackling mountain passes, you can ride with the confidence that your journey is designed to be as low-impact and meaningful as possible.

Leading the Way in Sustainable Travel

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us—it’s at the core of our operations. We are one of the few adventure travel companies committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), working towards true net zero with rigorous, science-backed goals. From measuring and reducing the carbon impact of each trip to investing in conservation, our approach ensures that responsible travel is at the heart of every itinerary.

Every client receives a feedback survey when they return from their guided, self guided or tailor made holiday with us. Once completed the review is published on our website just as soon as our database updates. The little touches and details are important to us and where issues are raised we make positive changes to our trips to improve your experience.

That’s why we read each of our client’s reviews and although we don’t respond to all of them, if it’s glowing feedback then we get the satisfaction of helping to make your holidays truly memorable.
