    Mini Bio

Life’s all about the journey. From mathematics teacher to ski instructor to Medical Doctor, I’ve had an eclectic career. I did my mathematics degree and secondary school teaching in York, but completed my medical studies in Scotland and New Zealand. So it’s fair to say I’ve travelled around a bit.

During my time I’ve been lucky enough to walk, climb, ski and ride all over the British Isles and internationally. The experiences I’ve had with other people in the outdoors have taught me so much about myself and the world generally, I can’t wait to share new adventures. Whether it’s cycling from Lands end to John o groats or climbing 6000m peaks in the Andes – It’s all about enjoying the ride.

    Favourite Place to Play

I’m lucky to have the Peak District on my doorstep, so I get to go climbing on grit stone regularly. Plus the pub walks are superb too.

Not a lot of People Know This

I love a good game of chess. If there’s a board in the corner of the hotel bar – I’m your man!

    • Countless UK adventures, including riding LEJOG in 11 days, canoeing the Caledonian Canal, and walking sections of the South West Coast Path.
    • As I’ve gotten older, I’ve switched over to biking more. So my current “best day ever” would be a nice day ride around the Peaks – with a café stop, obviously.
    Biggest Adventure Read More

A three week adventure climbing 6000m peaks in the Andes. There was just two of us and we did a lot of bivvies above 5000m. The sense of isolation and adventure was profound.

    Specialist Subject Read More

Whisky and Cocktails. I love waxing on about my favourite Speyside and Islay single malts. But, in recent times, I’ve got a newfound appreciation for blended whiskys. I also make a mean Manhattan.

What Fellow Travellers Say About David

David Bloomfield was an excellent guide. Extremely knowledgeable about Scotland and the trail and careful to look out for each guest and what they needed to get through the long trek. A lot of fun to be around also and made the group feel at ease with each other.

Dave was great! He managed the challenges of the route and our necessary timing for the very day with cheerfulness but clarity. We really enjoyed getting to know him and especially loved when he broke into song on the trail.

Dave was awesome. I really appreciated his willingness to talk to us in detail about all things British, patiently explaining the answers to our sometimes-very-nosy questions about the government, politics, medical care, education, etc. He was very tactful throughout the trip and managed a group of challenging personalities, IMHO.
