Born in Scotland and spending holidays being made to walk up many a Scottish mountain developed my love and passion for the great outdoors – even if I might not have appreciated it at the time!

I chose my degree on the basis that I could live and study in Italy for four years. This merely cultivated my passion for travel and my inability to stay anywhere for more than six months.

In the early 90’s, whilst cycling around Cuba, I discovered that travelling by bike was the best way to explore and see a country. After a couple of years of living and working in London, my travel itch got the better of me. I found myself in the jungles of Belize with a youth development charity. I took my bike and, post expedition, I cycled across the border into Guatemala and on to Mexico. I went on to Ecuador to learn Spanish and from there to Chile, where I spent a year living in Patagonia and working in the Torres del Paine National Park.

Returning to the UK, I knew I wanted to work in travel, so I spent a year running gastronomic walking tours in Tuscany before joining an adventure travel company and leading biking and hiking trips worldwide, from Madagascar to Mongolia. I have horse ridden over the Andes and walked the Inca Trail 17 times!

I love helping people experience new places and cultures for the first time. I look forward to sharing my passion with like-minded people and exploring new places with Wilderness England.

Patagonia – Glaciers, condors, pumas, and raw wild nature at its best. “Espectacular” as they say in Spanish

Not a lot of People Know This

In the winter months, I am a master baker at a local bakery and farm shop, which I love. As a foodie, I go to work, drink great coffee, make cinnamon buns, and invent new recipes; what is not to love?

    Still to come!

However, some highlights from the past include leading a trek in the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia to a remote village where we helped build a health clinic for the locals so they didn’t have to trek for two days to see a doctor. Working and staying with the locals, eating goat curry, and receiving their expressions of thanks will remain with me for a long time.

Equally, horse riding over the Andes with a group of polo-playing ladies from the UK and some Argentinean Gauchos was memorable in a very different way! Halfway between Argentina and Chile, we met the Argentinian Army in a military outpost. We proceeded to have a fantastic night of fine Argentinian wine, music, and dancing in the high Andes. Priceless!
