      Mini Bio

      My love of the outdoors and nature developed at a young age growing up on the family farm in Hertfordshire. My first visit to the Lake District was in my late teens, and I was hooked on hill walking and adventure from that moment on. Studying Agriculture was a natural progression, and after completing my degree, I embarked on a 25 year career in the Agricultural Industry. Still, my passion for walking and the mountains never left me. I am now fortunate to live the dream in my second career as an outdoor instructor and walking guide, and I love every minute!

      Favourite Place to Play

      Apart from the obvious mountainous areas in the UK, North Norfolk is a special place. You only go there if you want to, as it’s not en route to anywhere, and the beaches and big skies are amazing, especially in the winter.

Sometimes the miles really started to add up but she always had a way to keep things moving along, allowing us to pace ourselves as needed.       Lou was great. We were a group of 3, so we had ample time to interact with her and other members of the group. It was like having a private guide. She was always helpful and accommodating with the itinerary and timing of our day's activities, stopping to visit sites/museums when desired, and interspersing lunch and rest stops (including the group's desire to pet every dog and photograph all the sheep and cows we met along the way). On a walk like Hadrian's Wall, there will always be a tension between spending more time on the history versus getting the day's 25 kilometers behind us, but she managed these competing considerations well from my perspective (I like the history but I'm more walker than historian).

      Lou is the BEST. She was knowledgeable, prepared, and hilarious. I felt like we were in very good hands for our trip from the beginning. I loved our nightly dinners where we chatted about the walk the next day and all the thought that went into the where we were walking, what we were seeing, and our meals. Lou kept our group together, happy, well-fed and watered. She did a great job weaving walking with history, it was fun to learn about the Cotswolds.

      Lou is an excellent guide, she knows what she is doing; she is friendly, helpful and accommodating towards us - two examples are (a) she went out of her way to get a birthday cake for my wife, and (b) she followed up with the refund that I was supposed to get from one of the hotels for a mistaken charge. It was a pleasure having Lou as our guide.
